Topographic Survey

Detailed surveys of land and features, accurate to the millimetre.

Overview

What you get, and why it matters.

Topographic surveys capture the existing conditions of a site — levels, boundaries, trees, services, and built features — to inform planning, design and construction.

A topographic (or “topo”) survey is a precise, scaled record of a site’s existing conditions. For projects across the Lake District and Cumbria, that usually means capturing ground levels, hard and soft landscaping, walls and fences, trees, drainage, kerbs, and anything else that will influence design or planning.

Every survey is tied into Ordnance Survey National Grid and Ordnance Datum Newlyn (or a local datum where specifically requested), so the drawings you receive drop cleanly into your architect’s or engineer’s workflow.

Work is carried out using a robotic total station and GNSS RTK, with point cloud scanning available where the site calls for it — heritage buildings, complex fells, or tightly constrained urban plots.

FAQs

Topographic Survey — common questions

  • How much does a topographic survey cost in Cumbria?
Price depends on site size, detail required, and access. Most single-plot residential sites in Cumbria fall in a predictable range, and Stefan will give you a fixed fee after a quick look at the site boundary and what you need the survey for. There’s no charge for a quote.
  • How long does a topographic survey take?
A typical residential plot takes half a day to a day on site, with drawings delivered within one to two weeks. Larger or more complex sites are scheduled individually.
  • Can you deliver the survey in my architect’s CAD format?
Yes — drawings are supplied as DWG to your preferred layer standard, plus PDF. Revit and IFC are available on request.
